Borders Voluntary Community Care Forum

Borders Voluntary Community Care Forum

Representing local views about community care

What is the BVCCF?

The BVCCF is an independent voluntary organisation set up to represent the interests of people who use services and their carers and local voluntary organisations in the planning and provision of community care.

Following the NHS and Community Care Act 1990, the Associations of Voluntary Service set up the Forum to represent local views about community care to the authorities. The Scottish Borders Council and the Border Health Board are responsible for producing a Joint Community Care Plan and annually reviewing its progress. The Forum works in partnership with the Scottish Borders Council and Borders Health Board who jointly fund the Forum.

What are the Forum's Aims?

  • To act as a focal point for consultation and representation on matters to do with community care
  • To enable users and carers to have a voice in the planning and provision of community care
  • To promote the provision of accessible information and to raise public awareness about community care
  • To assist in the provision of training to improve the quality of community care services
  • To encourage and support the development of new community care initiatives in the field of advice, information and advocacy
  • To work in partnership with all agencies both locally and nationally to improve community care services

Who can join the Forum?

Membership of the Forum is open to all voluntary organisations and individuals with an interest in the planning and provision of community care services in the Borders. From the membership, 15 representatives are nominated to serve for a period of 3 years on the Executive Committee of the Forum. Members meet regularly to discuss community care issues and to progress the work of the Forum.
