Gala Wheels, Accessible Community Transport
- This project is for residents of Central Borders. We have three wheelchair accessible vehicles for hire. Each vehicle can carry up to 2 passengers in wheelchairs.
Who is Gala Wheels for?
- Gala Wheels is for anyone who has difficulty accessing public transport or who has mobility problems. Our vehicles are also available for hire by community/activity groups.
Who cand drive the cars?
- Anyone aged 21 - 70 years of age with a clean licence can register as a Gala Wheels driver. Volunteer drivers are very welcome!
- If you do not have a driver of your own we may be able to provide a volunteer for you as long as sufficient notice is given.
What does it cost?
- Trips are charged by the mile. Please contact the office for details of current pricing. Gala Wheels is registered with the Social Car Scheme and the cost of any trips which fall into this category will qualify for the subsidy.

- Shopping trips
- Visits to family and friends
- Outings and sightseeing trips
- Transport to meetings
- UK short break holidays
- Hospital visits
- Community or activity group trips

Booking the vehicle
- Just telephone Borders Disability Forum on 01896 668578.
- The vehicles can only be booked by or on behalf of a registered user.
- So please register now even if you do not want to use the service immediately.
- We need your details on file for the Social Car Scheme subsidy ans so we can keep you up to date on any news or changes.
- When you phone details of your journey will be taken and a booking form will be sent to the driver. The booking form is required prior to collection of the vehicle.
- Please allow at least 5 days if you require a volunteer driver.
- Invoices will be issued and sent to the user at the end of each month for all completed journeys.
