Borders Open Day

Up-and-coming Scottish writer Lynsey Calderwood will launch an Open Day at Momentum’s brain injury service in the Scottish Borders on Friday, October 1.
Lynsey, a former client of Momentum’s Glasgow brain injury service, is the author of ‘Cracked’ – a personal account of her experiences of brain injury. At 14, Lynsey’s memory was effectively ‘wiped’ after she fell and bumped her head and had to relearn everything from brushing her teeth to recognising herself and her family. She is now building a successful career as a writer with her first book very positively received and her second currently being considered by agents.
The Open Day is being held to mark the expansion of Momentum’s service - which assists both adults and children in the Scottish Borders area to rebuild their lives following brain injury - and
the recent move from Galashiels to bigger premises in Kelso.
Staff and clients will showcase the work of the two programmes offered. Integrate assists both adults and children to manage the effects of their brain injury, providing one-to-one support and encouraging clients to re-integrate into their communities.
Integrate is complemented by Pathways, which delivers specialist training and support to adults with a brain injury who want to return to employment or further education. Pathways was the recipient of almost £30,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund earlier this year, allowing the service to be extended to clients in a wider geographical area.
The event takes place from 12noon to 2pm and anyone wishing more information should contact Carol Scott at the Borders service on 01573 229730.
