FORESTRY COMMISSION SCOTLAND DRAGONFLY PONDS WALK AT DYKECROFTS NEWCASTLETON From Newcastleton turn left at the signs for Forestry Commission Dykecrofts at the end of the village to the south. Dykecrofts visitor centre has accessible toilet and leaflets. From Dykecrofts continue by car along road which becomes rougher to the car park. From the car park the ponds walk can be viewed. Picnic tables. Ability centre members recommend that people in wheelchairs assess the path from the car park before attempting it. Steep section at start leading to flat level section beside ponds. Picnic table. Narrow section with pond below at one side and burn below at the other side. Level section beside wet meadow area and another pond. Fairly wide bridge leading to steep uphill section of path to reach level track to car park. Walk distance 0.6 miles. In Spring look out for daffodils and frogs. In late Summer look out for dragonflies and damselflies. Also look out for roe deer, butterflies, birds, trees.
